Cian Prendiville suggested 148 The Crescent, Milbrook Lawns for Dereliction is everywhere. Help us map it. 2025-03-26 14:28:12 +0000
Dereliction is everywhere. Help us map it.
Rents are through the roof. There is a dire shortage of houses to rent or buy. Yet there are 166,000 vacant or derelict houses across the country, including almost 4,000 in South Dublin County Council (SDCC). One in three of these have been idle since 2016.
It is shameful to allow ‘investors’ sit on vacant houses during a housing crisis, letting them fall into disrepair and cause major problems for those nearby. That’s why People Before Profit is launching a campaign to tackle dereliction.
We have highlighted a number of properties in Dublin South West which have been vacant for years and are already on the derelict housing register. One of these houses (photographed) has been on the derelict register for 6 years, and is owned by the vulture fund Pepper Finance. PBP brought a motion to SDCC calling for these properties to be taken into public ownership if the owners continue to leave them derelict. Despite opposition from Fine Gael and some of the so-called ‘Independents’, this motion passed. It must now be implemented without delay.
This is just the beginning. Many more derelict properties are not yet on the register. That’s why we are appealing for your help.

Petition: Reliable Buses Now
Affected by a no-show or ghost bus? Report it below (direct link here) and please consider signing the petition below.
We the undersigned call for:
- An action plan to end Ghost Buses in 2025: Transport for Ireland should provide details of how they will end the no show fiasco, and ensure all cancelled buses are properly reported and updated on the live travel information
- Recruit & retain bus workers and mechanics: We support the workers in their fight for proper pay, conditions and union rights so we can recruit and retain the staff needed for a reliable bus service
- Increase investment in public transport from the government, to increase the frequency and reliability
- End the privatisation experiment: No to the renewal of contracts with Go-Ahead or giving them more routes, instead bring them back under Dublin Bus, as a step to reversing privatisation of public transport.
We believe privatisation has failed, and that would be made clear by a genuine public review of the privatisation experiment across public transport by workers and commuters, including opening the books of the private operators to see the profits being made. Instead, we believe public transport should be a public service: free, fast and frequent.
-
Report No Show Buses
Public transport must be frequent and reliable, we cannot have people standing in the cold, watching the countdown for the arrival of a promised bus only for it to never show up and they have no way of knowing if the next one will be the same.
The Dublin Inquirer has launched noshowbus.ie as a platform for people to report no show and ghost buses, so they can be tracked, highlighted and pressure brought on to improve the situation. If you experience a no show bus, you can report it using the form below:

Cian Prendiville published Ellensborough & Kiltipper Area Park in Latest News 2020-06-20 12:48:23 +0100
Ellensborough & Kiltipper Area Park
The area around Ellensborough has grown rapidly in recent years, but without the necessary community facilities. Now South Dublin County Council has agreed to develop a park in the community. They have published draft proposals for the park behind Ellensborough 'Kiltipper Park', including walkways, two soccer pitches, a GAA pitch, a children's playground and woodland features. The community now has a chance to comment on this draft, point out any problems or missing features, and make alternative suggestions.
What's in the plans?
This image provides a rough overview of the plans for the park
More detailed plans are available here and the materplan is here.
How can you suggest an amendment?
These plans are currently out for public consultation, which means anyone can make a proposal, point out a problem in the plans or simply give feedback. The easiest way to do this is online using the SDCC Consultations website:
- If this is your first time using this website, you will need to create an account on the council website giving your name, address and email (organisations and agents can create separate accounts here). Once you have created an account, you need to confirm it by clicking a link sent to your email from [email protected] and log in
- Once you have an account go to the page about Kiltipper park here where you can see more information and click the blue '+ Make A Submission' button on the right-hand side.
- Now you have to set a title & location for your submission, you can set both to 'Kiltipper Park' & click next
- On thenext page select 'Theme' as 'Part 8 consultation', you can title the submission 'Kiltipper Park' or anything you like and the add whatever comment you like. There is no need to be too formal or legalistic in the comment, simply say what you think is missing, or could be improved with the plans.
- You can skip the bits about attachments and marking the map, unless you need those features
- Scroll down and click 'Save and review', this gives you a last chance to preview your submissions
- When ready click 'Submit Now'
- Please also let me know when you have made a submission and what you have proposed by sending an email to [email protected] or leaving a comment down below
