UPDATE:

I am delighted to hear that our campaign to save Tallaght's Long Covid Clinic has been successful.

A few weeks ago I was informed the Clinic had been told its funding would run out at the end of February, and there was no new funding planned. I worked with others to highlight this and raised it with the Tanaiste in the Dail.

Now we have got word that ongoing funding is being promised. I will be keeping up the pressure to ensure this promised funding is delivered. We need investment in Long Covid clinics right across the country, as thousands of people who recover from acute Covid are discovering they have long term symptoms and need ongoing treatment.

When Pete Brennan caught Covid last Christmas he was admitted to Tallaght Hospital, ending up in ICU and in a coma for three months. His family were told to ‘prepare for the worst’, but with the help of the hospital he managed to defy all the odds and get through. Sadly, like thousands of others he is still suffering from Long Covid symptoms months later, and needs regular support and help which he and many others get at the Tallaght University Hospital Long Covid clinic.

Now this clinic faces the threat of closure. It has no funding beyond February 2022. But Pete is fighting back, and campaigning together with Paul Murphy TD to save Tallaght’s Long Covid Clinic and secure more investment in Long Covid care across the country.
